Welcome to the April edition of The Guide!

With more rain on the way, it’s a good time to get along to vibrant local exhibitions at The Old Ambo and The Butter Factory Arts Centre, as well as a nationally touring exhibition at UniSC Gallery.

For the budding filmmakers, don’t miss the ShowdownMAX incubator, an incredible opportunity to kick-start your next film project. There are opportunities in public art open, this time in Somerset Regional Council, open to artists across South East Queensland.

Information session 7 April

ShowdownMAX is a premier film and TV incubator competition supporting Sunny Coast filmmakers. Four shortlisted projects will receive $10,000 in paid development with top Australian screenwriters, producers, and developers. One standout will secure over $200,000 in production funding and support.

Experience Between Waves at UniSC Gallery

17 February - 5 May

This nationally touring exhibition arrives at UniSC Gallery, curated by Dr Jessica Clark. Developed by the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) with NETS Victoria, Between Waves showcases digital media, sound, and site-responsive works that explore the intersection of material and immaterial realms of knowledge.

Between Waves amplifies concepts related to light, time, and vision, and explores the idea of shining a light on our times, as expressed by the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung word 'Yalingwa'. Featuring artists Maree Clarke, Dean Cross, Brad Darkson, Matthew Harris, James Howard, Hayley Millar Baker, Jazz Money, Cassie Sullivan, this mob, and Mandy Quadrio.

REMIX Academy: Reimagining Regional

1 - 2 May

The REMIX Academy summit brings together world class innovators from diverse industries to explore the trends shaping the future of the creative economy in regional towns and cities. Over 1.5 days, hear from a powerhouse line-up of speakers like Jenny Gil, Executive Director of Desert X (USA), and Blair Parkin, Chief Experience Development Officer of Eden Project (UK). Attendees will engage in inspirational talks and group discussions on cultural tourism, art, technology, infrastructure, and innovation, with a focus on the future of creativity and culture in regional Australian towns and cities.

EOI
Somerset Regional Council invites artists at all career stages to submit EOIs for public artworks along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. Artworks should reflect the region's history, First Nations heritage, or rural landscapes.
EOI closes 11 April.

Moreton Bay Art Prize

The Moreton Bay Art Prize and Outdoor Art Prize is an annual exhibition and prize that supports and celebrates our diverse local artists. Each year, the Moreton Bay Art Prize is awarded to an artist aged 18 years or over who currently resides in the City of Moreton Bay local government area or identifies as a Kabi Kabi, Turrbal, or Jinibara First Nations person living in Australia.

Tour Producer Training - PAC

The Tour Producer Training is designed for producers, artists, and companies looking to build national tour development skills.

In 2025 they will be offering two bespoke learning opportunities, one for emerging tour producers new to the national touring space and an in-depth program for producers familiar with national touring, who want to hone their craft. Both have a range of online sessions and an in-person intensive, and will focus on the tour development phase, and will not include topics such as funding applications, logistics, on-the-road management and post-tour wrap up/reporting.

Arteles Fall into Focus - Finland

The autumn residency period at Arteles Creative Center provides artists, writers and researchers with the optimal conditions for sustained concentration. The program offers flexible time and space to freely develop creative projects without external or outcome pressure.

Explore The Keeper Collection at The Old Ambo Gallery, showcasing logbooks, artefacts, and rarities from the Keepers who brought life and art to the streets of Coolum and Nambour as the archaeologists of local stories.
