SCCA President Liz Burcham joined a prestigious lineup of national and international leaders at REMIX Academy Sunshine Coast 2025, including Ruth Mackenzie CBE (London 2012 Cultural Olympiad), Blair Parkin (Eden Project, UK), and Jenny Gil (Desert X, USA). Held at Wharf Events, Mooloolaba over 2 days, the summit brought together innovative voices from culture, technology, business and the creative industries to explore the trends shaping the future of the creative economy in Australia’s dynamic regional cities.
Delivering a compelling presentation on the role of SCCA and our professional development suite, The Refinery, Liz Burcham opened by acknowledging the region’s vibrant creative ecosystem and describing the Sunshine Coast as “full of momentum” with an emphasis on the importance of channeling this forward energy into long-term investment in arts and culture.
Her address reinforced the vital role regional voices play in shaping a diverse, resilient and future-focused creative economy; positioning SCCA, through The Refinery, as a key solution to the regional sector’s evolving needs as it develops a pipeline of technologically-engaged creatives equipped to build sustainable practices for new markets and audiences.
Connecting local creatives and Refinery alumni with REMIX delegates and speakers, SCCA hosted a networking event on the first evening of the summit. Drinks and canapes flowed as new ideas, provocations and conversations were sparked and foundations for future collaborations between local and international creatives were laid.
