SCCA supports Jordyn Burnett’s Mentorship with Dr Margi Brown Ash

From July to November 2024, SCCA facilitated a mentorship for Jordyn Burnett with Dr Margi Brown Ash—a distinguished educator, theatre-maker, therapist, and mentor with over 45 years of experience. The mentorship aimed to strengthen Jordyn’s leadership and group facilitation skills, boosting her confidence and supporting the growth of her initiative, the Anxious Artists Association (AAA).

AAA is a supportive community for artists, offering monthly peer-driven meetups that foster connection, creativity, and personal growth. Through five one-hour online sessions, Dr Brown Ash offered tailored feedback, guiding Jordyn to embrace a collaborative approach to group facilitation over traditional top-down approaches and encouraging her to manage self-care through effective boundary-setting.

The learnings acquired during the mentorship directly inspired the launch of AAA's hybrid format, combining online and in-person meet-ups. By addressing mental health and location barriers of AAA participants, Jordyn expanded the audience reach, making it more inclusive and accessible to a broader creative community.

Reflecting on the experience, Jordyn shared:

"The best thing about having a mentor meant I didn’t have to figure things out on my own. Dr Margi’s guidance gave me validation and reassurance that what I wanted to offer to the community was needed and worthwhile."
